Introduction

Allantoin is an imidazole heterocyclic compound, a derivative of uric acid, and is an inherent component of human skin. As an antioxidant, uric acid and free radicals produce allantoin. In 1912, Mocllster extracted allantoin from the underground stems of comfrey plants. Allantoin can promote cell tissue growth, metabolism, and soften stratum corneum proteins. These properties are especially evident when allantoin is applied to ulcerated and purulent skin, so it has the ability to speed up wound healing and is a good active agent for skin damage.

Pure product is a non-toxic, odorless, non-irritating, non-allergic white crystal, crystallized in water as a single prism or colorless crystalline powder. Melting point: 226-240°C. Soluble in hot water, hot alcohol and dilute sodium hydroxide solution. Slightly soluble in water and alcohol at room temperature, insoluble in organic solvents such as ether and chloroform; its saturated aqueous solution (concentration: 0.6%) is slightly acidic; PH is 5.5. It is stable in an aqueous solution with a pH value of 4-9. It is also stable in non-aqueous solvents and dry air; it can be decomposed in strong alkaline solution by boiling and sunlight exposure.

●  Allantoin has the effect of promoting the growth of skin cells and making wounds heal quickly. Used as an anti-ulcer drug, mixed with dry aluminum hydroxide gel for peptic ulcer and inflammation. The product can also soften keratin, keep the skin hydrated, moisturized and soft, and is a special effect additive for cosmetics. Allantoic and its derivatives are also quality improvers and additives for many daily chemical products. Allantoin protein can be formulated into anti-irritant, anti-dandruff, cleansing and wound-healing scalp preparations, leaving hair soft, shiny and bouncy. This product is an amphoteric compound, which can be combined with a variety of substances in the form of double salt. It has the functions of avoiding light, bactericidal and antiseptic, analgesic, deodorant, and antioxidant. Therefore, it is a daily chemical product, beauty cosmetics such as freckles cream, acne liquid, shampoo , soap, toothpaste, shaving lotion, astringent, antiperspirant deodorant detergent and other additives. Allantoin is also a biochemical agent.

●  Used for skin care, oral products, anti-allergy, treatment of skin ulcers and promotion of wound healing, etc.

●  Widely used in the treatment of various skin ulcers, wounds and additives in nutritional cosmetics

●  As a potent biomarker for oxidative stress; for the synthesis of Mannich bases as antibacterial agents; for the synthesis of sulfochlorophenylurea analogs as antineoplastic agents; as plant growth regulators

●  With amphoteric properties, it can form metal salts and adducts with many substances and maintain the original characteristics. Its saturated aqueous solution (0.6%) is slightly acidic (pH=6), stable in an aqueous solution of pH=4~9, and decomposes in alkaline solution and when it is boiled for a long time. The pH of the saturated aqueous solution was 5.5.

●  Purine metabolites via the uric acid pathway. Uric acid can also react with free radicals to form allantoin, so allantoin can be a useful biomarker of oxidative stress.
